1 grain of sand one infinite beach

 Gloria

I met her in Civil Air Patrol--we were cadets together--besides sharing my mothers first name Gloria was the girl who made me feel good about myself.First she said I looked like Fabian--I combed my hair even more after that---she was the first girl I thought was really hot--which was not an expression then--I'm talkin 1959---
Gloria had fairly long dark hair--beautiful exotic features--and was part Italian--and she was the best kisser--and she would always tease me saying-if only I was catholic--she would marry me---cause I had large hands and she liked men with large hands --she let me grab her butt--and she liked to pin me up to the wall in her carport and grind into me-which drove me wild---she said--too bad--nothing else--your not catholic--I have to marry a catholic boy.I got to hang out with her on the close order drill team--we were in competition--she was a tall girl, great figure. Gloria was really a good girl--she loved to flirt.I went off to the navy and Gloria went off to college--I came home for leave and Gloria came home dead from the Unn. of Florida--
I was devastated--I guess she found her catholic boy and he gave her a venerial disease--she caught pneumonia and died--and I went to the funeral and looked at my friend in the box--she didn't look like I wanted her to look--alive and just a bad dream--instead she was thin and pale and I couldn't bring her back till now--love ya babe.  WhiteTail LIghts part-#4

We combined the sum of our intellect and couldn't come up with a rational explanation for what we had witnessed--let me rephrase that--we couldn't come up with a normal explanation--the term UFO seemed appropriate--we couldn't ID it-it did fly or at last move through the sky under some form of power-a silent energy--and we believed it was an object.
We were still talking about our experience when the palteau, just past the far side of the canyon LIT UP LIKE A SUPERMARKET GRAND OPENING,a light show so magnificent that it could rival a major July 4th fireworks celebration. Giant search beams fired off into the Texas sky, from a central core on the ground,no more that 1/2 mile from us.
Most of the primary colors. We were watching power light and beauty of immense proportions as if a city in celebration had just materialized on the rocky plateau that only a short time earlier had been the home to a few jack rabbits,a carnival of light and action in the Texas hills that definitely had our undivided attention. We concluded that this was the same object or another one.We observed the object for at least an hour and discussed it at length and concluded that the only way to satisfy our curiosity would be to walk to it and see for ourselves up close and personal as the expression goes. There was no inital fear, only a desire to find an answer.
I backed the Camaro out of the narrow drive and we drove around the end of the canyon and stopped at a locked gate.Directly in front of us,600/800 yards was the source of all the mystery, power and beauty, its unabashed light show continued in earnest. We were only a short walk away and we would know. What happened next is still a little perplexing, perhaps it was fear of the unknown or an overwhelming feeling of vulnerability or maybe a telepathic warning,in any event our reaction was instantaneous,we faced each other and in unison said the words--LETS GO! I backed the car out and we headed off the ranch without even looking back.We considered telling the authorities in Kerrville--passed right by the sheriffs office--but decided not to--
I was transferred to Galveston shortly after the hill country incident.I have lost track of Danny and never have been able to remember his last name.I want very badly to talk with him again about what we witnessed.
I pay attention to UFO stories especially ones with similarities. I feel privileged to have seen waht we did and it has taught me to keep my minds door open to the unlimited possibilities that exist.I will always wonder what if,and think of that time in the Texas hills in the land of the whitetail and the night of the lights.

P.S Danny and my wife were expecting and delivered kids one day apart---my middle son while in elementary school did not draw the typical stick figure people and mommy and daddy--he drew space creatures with large heads and eyes--all a bit unique--from one another.

 WhiteTail Lights part # 3

WhiteTail Lights part 3

The entire area around the cabin and the car lit up like broad daylight!,a brilliant beam of light flooded through the back window of the car and we were taken so by surprise that we just turned in automatic and mute response to stare at the source of the light.A huge object hovered silently behind the car, just over the top of the cabin,no more than 30/40 feet from us.The light was the brightest I had ever seen,or been able to look at.It did not hurt the eyes which was so strange. There was a center line of light through the object that was a shade of yellow. The object remained motionless but appeared to pulsate in brightness similar to if you worked a dimmer switch back and forth.Danny and I did not speak,we just stared in utter amazement.
I estimate the size of the object to be roughly 40 feet wide by 10/15 feet tall--the brightness and aura complicated a good estimate. It appeared to have definate form however smooth edges or surface features were not discernible because of the extreme brightness.
The object stayed behind the car for a period of time, but how long is a bit of a mystery-it's like we were transfixed on it and time was hard to figure---I can't remember one word being spoken during this time.
After a while the object began to move, from our left to the right as we viewed it.It moved slowly at first, almost drifting, crossed the drive leading up to the cabin and over a gully. The movement brought a change in the pulsations, which quickened as the object gained speed. It was as if we were watching a silent powerful energy source slowly coming to life--or a more energized life . INSTANTLY it just shot off into the sky with an almost indescribable velocity! The saying " here one minute and there the next" comes to mind --except the word there refers to many miles. The object was still visible as a bright speck and appeared to be keeping company with the stars and still Danny and I stared in silence.
The mystery dot of light SUDDENLY BECAME LARGER as it seemed to retrace its path back to our location and the pulsations were again visible as it slowed but it remained a distance from us.
We had box seats to a spectacular show and sort of sat in a state of privileged respect and silence,as the events unfolded before our eyes. When your are in the presence of such an overwhelming, unexplained phenomenon, the terms smallnesss, and insignificant, take on a more advanced description. The word speechless describes our reaction to a T.It again kicked into its own form of passing gear but this time we lost sight of it in the stars, but continued to search the heavens in hopes of seeing it again.
We finally began to talk to each other, more or less verifying the events we had just witnessed,we actually pinched ourselves to confirm we were in a wakened state.
During this entire episode we never experience fear, just wonderment, and if this had been the conclusion of this mysterious happening we would have had quite a memory to carry through life.We had only witnessed act-1 and soon the curtain would rise for act -2--the grand finale!! more tonight Codger

 WhiteTail LIghts----part #2

"WhiteTail Lights"

I huddled against the early morning chill, marveled at the beauty of the starlit-Texas sky,the air was fresh and I was glad we had come and eagerly awaited the dawn.We both had expectations regarding this trip, but no degree of forethought could have prepared us for the realities we would face this day,nor has 34 years--now 2006--diminished the memory of what we would soon encounter.
The dawn crept in as stealthily as a thief and began as a pin hole of light, burning a hole in the fabric of the eastern horizon and what had earlier been darkened mysterious shapes were now revealed in the infant Texas sun. I strained my eyes to catch the first glimpse of deer so prevalent in the night but saw no movement, only jagged stone statues and weathered ragged trees standing defiant along the canyon hillside. The moment was at hand but it soon became apparent that our quarry was not participating in our little Kodak moment.
I heard the sound of a turkey calling in the distance,a brooks running water and the whispered breath of the stirring wind carressed my skin.It was a peaceful solitude that was SUDDENLY and RUDELY interrupted by a DEAFENING ROAR!!MY attention was diverted to the left, and I saw great beast moving in procession along a well worn trail. These were not the peaceful whitetail deer but creatures of steel, plodding along on hooves of rubber, moving under the power of digested carbon fuel and emitting bye products that fowled the air and noise that shattered the whispered silence. The only RACKS I saw were car top carriers, eight point caddys,6 point Fords and pick-up trucks and all were outracing the dust clouds in their wake.
The deer that roamed the night now hid in safe unseen places away from this human onslaught.People were coming onto the property in droves to look at lots or work on the places they had already bought--and we were sitting on the edge of the equivalent of a country interstate--a line slightly embellished but when deer hunting is involved and quietness and stealth important, a very accurate description indeed!
I sat patiently hoping the disturbance might run a buck my way but no such luck.It was a pitiful morning to hunt and Danny thought the same as I saw him emerging from his hiding place.
We decided to drive around a bit and check out the ranch but only made it across the road where we met some other hunters who had similar results. We shot the bull awhile (talked)and decided to eat and give it another try in the afternoon. That afternoon it was more of the same.We spent some time before dark exploring the flat rocky plateau on the far side of the canyon--found a lot of Jack-Rabbits and jumped one doe and that was it.
The sun was dying and the night came sliding in like the tide. The canyon once again became a dark abyss and the revelations of the day gave way to the mysteries of the night. We made it back to the car to sit and contemplate our remaining two day option. We watched the hunters across the road leaving the ranch and we were thinking about doing the same but after such a long drive we procrastinated a while, trying to rationalize a scenario that might have a more favorable outcome.SUDDENLY and without WARNING IT HAPPENED!!

 Whitetail LIghts---a true story---part #1

I'm finally going to share this story that happened to me and a friend,it is very long--so I will have to do it in parts--or perhaps I will attempt to do it all---the following event happened to me and a friend back in 1972--for years I only told a handful of people--mainly family--20 years after the incident-I committed the telling to paper--in 1992---I am proud to be part of this event-and only wish I could find my friend to talk about it after all these years.

"WhiteTail Lights"

The land owner wrote a note on a brown paper bag,and a map to his property just outside of Kerrville in the Texas Hill Country.
It was the fall of 1972,I was an asst. mgr.at a dime store and welcomed the opportunity to have a place to hunt and relax before the Christmas rush. The stranger at the lunch counter was kind to offer his place and said he didn't mind if I brought a friend along.
The drive home that evening went quickly as I changed lanes and daydreams at will, imagining cool crisp mornings, clean mountain air and an 8 point buck silhoetted against a rising Texas sun. I broke the bonds of the merciless Houston traffic and picked up speed while pleasant memories of my youth flashed through my mind as fast as the mile markers changed, especially the years on my Grandparents farm in the foothills of the Blueridge mountains of Va.
This would be my first opportunity to visit this popular and scenic portion of Texas.Anticipation and mounting excitement were the word as I turned into Stonegate down the shaded peaceful street toward our house. I saw our neighbor Glenn in his yard preparing his famous barbeque. I rolled down my window to speak to him and the sweet smell of mesquite filled my car. I ask Glenn if he would like to go deer hunting--and as nmuch as the idea appealed to him he was unable to get away.
I contined on to my house and pulled into the driveway and my wife met me at the door and said Glenn wanted us to come down for some barbecue and he had a new couple to the neighborhood for us to meet--said they were me and Martys age.We went down and met the new couple--the guys name was Danny--I asked him if he liked to hunt and his eyes lit up like a kids on Christmas morning--I figured I had found my deer hunting partner!. We had a very enjoyable visit, shared some of Glenns brisquette and Danny and I planned our little hill country adventure, now all that remained were receptive bosses and the approval for a few days off.Within the next few days we had both managed to finagle three days off,we got our gear together and hit the road. The day turned to night and the miles to our destination diminished and the terrain from flat to rolling to rugged as we traveled narrow mountain roads under a starlit Texas sky.
In the mountains we began to see deer in great numbers along the side of the road and the scenery was magestic,a welcome change from the endless concrete and asphalt of the city.We passed through Kerrville at two in the morning driving another 15 miles or so till be came to the turn-off to the Spicer Ranch. The ranch was a 27,000 acre expanse now being sold for get away retreats in lots from 5 to 20 acres.Deer were everywhere and there seemed no doubt that within a few days we would be enjoying fresh vinison and swapping stories of our hunting prowess.
We traveled dusty dirt and gravel roads following directions on a brown paper bag and finally located the narrow drive to our benefactors property and came to a stop next to his partially completed cabin.Deer were standing around in the yard and barely flinched at the sound of the car or glare of the headlights.
It was clear and cold on that on that predawn Texas morning and the frost laden ground crunched benneath our feet as we set out to explore the area, build blinds and wait for the morning sun which would signal the start of deer season.
We walked a short distance and it soon became apparent that our little hunting oasis was less than ideal as the ground suddenly plunged into a small narrow canyon which comprised the bulk of the 20 acre property.
I chose a small rock outcropping partway down the hill--to build my blind;from its vantage point I could observe the far side of the canyon and the field just on the other side-Danny chose a spot at the bottom right side of the canyon,we would meet up at 11.30 a.m for lunch. end of part 1--more later--The Codger
